Sewing Seeds in the Western Expansion

Reaching out and making friends

Craigsbank Church sits to the very edge of Edinburgh – to the west of the city. Fifty years ago the surrounding land was mostly farmland but slowly, land use has changed and we are now delighted to find ourselves sitting side-by-side with new neighbours as housing developments take shape down the Maybury Road from the Maybury to Cammo, and along Turnhouse Road to the end of the runway at Edinburgh International Airport. The neighbours moving in are friends we are yet to meet.

The West Craigs development takes a community of two small streets that have stood for 55 years – West Craigs Avenue and Crescent – along with the Lennie cottages sitting beside Turnhouse Golf Club, and builds out – right along Turnhouse Road. The 1700 new homes are all shapes and sizes but a particular focus is placed on homes for families, with the inclusion of two, five-acre parks, a primary school and nursery, a health centre and cafe. You can read more about the plans here.

In the other direction, stretching out from the Maybury to Cammo, Cammo Meadows is being developed with a mix of apartments and houses right on the edge of the 80 acre Cammo Estate. These new developments offer cycle paths and walking routes and link-in to ‘active Edinburgh’.

Working with the Old Parish in Corstorphine, we are keen to embrace both communities and look forward to finding new paths to faith together. We will learn from one another and grow.
